Munich, Germany (SPX) Mar 05, 2008 To contribute to the protection of people and property, the IT security specialist SecurStar has now developed PositionTracer for GPS-enabled mobile phones. With this brand-new product, it is now possible to determine the location of people as well as valuables using live position tracking. According to the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), over 1,800 children and youths are currently missing (as of July 2007). The BKA's "missing/unknown dead" files contain more than 500 children under the age of 14 and more than 1,300 youths between 14 and 17 years. 200 to 300 new cases are added daily. Often the missing are quickly found again. However, in certain cases, the missing children are never found. Tens of thousands of emergency calls are made on mobile phones daily; only a small percentage are able to indicate their exact location. This costs precious -- often life- saving -- time. To increase the safety of people and property, SecurStar has developed PositionTracer for GPS-enabled mobile telephones. It enables satellite-exact live tracking -- exact to a few meters -- as opposed to normal mobile telephony tracking. With this solution, current locations and movements can be easily tracked online on a map or a satellite photo in real time. Zones can be defined to trigger an alarm by e-mail, text message, messenger service, etc., whenever anyone enters or leaves the area. PositionTracer functions like a mobile guardian angel for its owner and is, therefore, particularly suitable for locating children, the elderly or ill, who can use this technology to indicate emergency situations such as accidents or kidnappings by pressing a special "PANIC" button. In practice, this would work as follows: for example, if a child changes her or her regular route to school or leaves the playground, the parents will immediately be notified by a signal and can react accordingly. At the same time, an automatic alarm signal can also ensure the security of vehicles, boats and other objects. As soon as the object leaves the defined zone, the software notifies the owner. "The deployment scenarios for our system are understandably manifold. For example, it offers concerned parents a completely new form of security for their children. It is now immediately possible to easily determine their location -- without the need of expensive additional equipment. This software can save lives in an emergency," says Wilfried Hafner, Managing Director of SecurStar GmbH.
